Brandwood Biomedical Founder and Principal Consultant Arthur Brandwood was honoured with a Personal Award for Outstanding Contribution at the China International Medical Device Regulatory Forum in Chengdu in September.
Dr. Brandwood said “This award was a great personal honour. Working in China has been enormously professionally fulfilling, cooperating with Chinese colleagues in government and industry, and building international relationships for the advancement of our profession”.
Dr. Brandwood receives his award from Mr Yongheng Chang, Executive Chairman, CIMDR and Director of the CFDA’s China Center for Food and Drug International Exchange
The award was presented at the opening ceremony of CIMDR, which is the world’s largest gathering of medtech regulatory professionals. Dr Brandwood was the international recipient. The honour was also bestowed upon Mr Liang Yan, previous Director of the Shanghai FDA and currently Director of the Shanghai Medical Instrument Association.
Dr Brandwood co-chaired the Biocompatibility Evaluation session at CIMDR along with Centre for Medical Device Evaluation (CMDE) review Division II Chief Shi Xinli. He has been instrumental in developing this expert workshop, which includes leading experts from ISO responsible for authoring the ISO 10993 standards. This year Dr Brandwood arranged and participated in a symposium between the ISO experts and CFDA reviewers at the Centre for Medical Device Evaluation in Beijing.
Dr. Brandwood said “the CFDA has been a leading regulator in embracing the risk based approaches embodied in the ISO 10993 standard. In working with the agency over the past few years, we have seen a transition from requirement for complete repeat testing in China to their current approach of acceptance of international test data and risk based biological evaluations.
