It seems the Indian Government has deep pockets but short arms. Apparently bureaucratic delays in release of funding are preventing implementation of India’s ambitious regulatory reform Agenda – including a new medical devices law covered in our earlier blog.
Quoted in Pharmabiz. Dr G N Singh, drug controller general of India (DCGI) has taken the unusual step of speaking out publicly to express his frustration at the failure to release funds for the ambitious overhaul of regulations in India.
Dr Singh said “Going by our commitment to ensure that no compromise is done with the health of the patients in the country, we have been pushing for this case with the government, persistently. In fact, in a recent meeting with them we had impressed upon the need to hasten the process as strengthening of drugs regulatory mechanisms is one of the major public health interventions,”
Apparently the Indian government has given “positive feelers” of a release possibly within six months…
