The closing dates for applications for the February 2018 Prostheses List are sneaking up very rapidly. Clinical Advisory Groups are made up of practicing clinicians who are responsible for the assessment of Prostheses List applications. This includes determining whether a device is suitable for listing and the categorisation of prostheses for the purposes of determining a benefit.
Clinical Advisory Groups (CAGs) cover the following clinical specialties:
Ophthalmic, Urogenital, Specialist Orthopaedic, Cardiac, Cardiothoracic, Vascular, Hip, Knee and Spinal.
The CAGs hold two meetings for each cycle. the first has already passed on JUNE 30, 2017. So you need to be quick to make the second CAG meeting and the last opportunity to submit for February 18 listing is AUGUST 25, 2017.
The Panel of Clinical Experts (POCE) do not have meetings and the cut-off date is SEPTEMBER 22, 2017. Again, it is much better to submit earlier rather than later in case of any need for correspondence.
The POCE cover the following specialties:
Ear, Nose and Throat, General Miscellaneous, Neurosurgical and Plastic and Reconstructive.
While a Prostheses List application may seem on the surface to be quite straightforward, there are many pitfalls for the uninitiated. The process, while under reform at the moment, is often opaque and inconsistent. A mistake can result in a 6-month delay to market and unnecessary additional expense. If these dates are missed, the next opportunity for listing will be August 2018.
